“Did you know that our beloved Selwyn Fireworks Spectacular started over 30 years ago as a small gathering called the Rolleston Fireworks? It all began when a few residents, along with the local fire brigade, decided to have a bonfire and set off some fireworks. This humble beginning has blossomed into the amazing event we know today.

Initially, the event was a small affair, but it soon grew into a medium-sized gathering at the Rolleston Reserve and now it is a registered charitable trust. By the mid-2010s, it had outgrown the reserve and moved to the wonderful Foster Park. This popular venue, known for its events, sports, and kid-friendly attractions, has become the heart of our celebration. Now, over 10,000 people flock to Foster Park every year to join in the fun!

Our event has always been run by dedicated volunteers with the goal of bringing the community together for a family-friendly night out while supporting local not-for-profit organisations. We are proud to host a variety of groups, including schools, music groups, sports teams, and individuals fundraising for charities. Our motto, "run by the community for the community," truly reflects our spirit.

This strong connection with our locals ensures the passion and dedication of our executive team. We are committed to keeping this event a locally run community gathering that supports those in need. Plus, we offer fantastic opportunities for those who want to volunteer and experience the pride that comes with contributing to an event enjoyed by thousands in our community.
